They will talk while others are around, bland chit chit which asks and reveals nothing. Although the dislike instilled whilst sitting at small, scarred desks in a classroom permeated with favouritism is a memory of more then a decade ago, it remains a barrier. The social constructs of small New Zealand society inform that cattiness is to be kept for behind one anothers backs. So they will talk while others are around.
But once the layers of the group are peeled away and they are standing at the bus stop alone, they will not speak. They board the same bus, they watch out the same windows, they press the same bell but once they alight the bus, they will not say goodbye.
